More Than Treatment: The Heart of Performance Therapy

The power of Performance Therapy is our people - patients, employees, and communities.

While playing high school football, I banged my knee up a little and needed just one physical therapy visit. Wayne Jimenez, PT (and now Clinic Director of our Fondren location), treated me in 1992. Yes, he was as loud then as he is now. That visit was the first time that I thought I may want to be a physical therapist. Initially, I went to college with the intention of continuing my education through pharmacy, medical, or physical therapy grad school. That was 30 years ago that I landed in PT school, and I have never looked back since.

Finding my passion

As a student at Forrest General in Hattiesburg, I had a stroke patient that could not move one of his legs. I treated him for a few days and movement returned. He began standing and then completed care walking with only a cane. He was so happy, thanking me over and over again. I tried my best to explain that he did all the work, I just pointed him in the right direction.

My passion is seeing patients return to what they love to do without pain. From that first experience to now, seeing patients reach their goals never gets old. For some that is playing middle linebacker on Friday nights or fishing on the weekends, while for others it is being able to participate in beauty pageants or hold their grandchildren. The list goes on and on.

Valuing Our People

In the past, I worked for a clinic that did not value their employees. Yes, they wanted their patients to get better as I believe every physical therapist does, but they did not seem to care about the people in the building. I vowed when I started this business that I would never treat an employee the way I was treated. It is important to me that our people are happy, they enjoy their work, and each employee has a fulfilling career.

If Performance Therapy takes care of our people, then they will take care of our patients. Everything else will fall into place. That is what sets us apart – genuine care for our therapists. They are not a number, rather individuals with families and goals of their own. My personal journey has shaped the heart of Performance Therapy and attracted the people that make Performance Therapy who we are. Happy therapists and pain-free patients is what makes Performance Therapy successful.

With different treatment options available, I am incredibly grateful when patients trust Performance Therapy for their treatment. It is so inspiring to watch them come in and work hard to return to their prior level of function. It makes us want to work even harder to help our patients achieve their goals.

The Heart of Performance Therapy

Our people – future patients, future employees, and future clinics – motivate me to continue to work hard and provide an excellent product. I hope our patients know we support our employees and employ therapists that care about them. We started with two employees and one clinic in Philadelphia. Now, we have over 250 employees and will reach 25 locations by mid-summer of 2025. The only negative aspect of growth in our company is that I can’t get to know every employee of the company. I never thought I would own 25 clinics, but instead intended to take care of patients and therapists, one clinic at a time. I am humbled by what my three partners and our team have been able to achieve. Our therapists are on the front lines everyday, treating patients, serving our communities, and representing the Performance Therapy name.
